The waters surrounding Fuerteventura remain lively with various fish species active in different zones. Water temperatures have stabilized around 20-22°C, creating favorable conditions for both pelagic and bottom fishing.
Sea state: Rough at times with moderate swells, especially on the eastern coast.

These conditions support a productive fishing environment, especially for species like amberjack, barracuda, stingrays and various types of mini species and bream
Best Fishing Spots on the Island
Fuerteventura offers diverse fishing locations, from rocky reefs to deep offshore waters. Here are some of the top spots currently producing good catches:
1. Corralejo Reefs
Located in the north, the reefs near Corralejo attract many species including grouper, snapper, and amberjack. Anglers targeting bottom fish will find success using live bait or jigs.
2. El Cotillo Bay
This western bay is known for its sandy bottoms and occasional rocky outcrops. It’s a hotspot for catching sea bream and small tuna species. Early morning or late afternoon trips yield the best results.
3. salinas
A deep water mark where you can target a number of species . large and small ,fishing off rocks onto clean ground ,this mark holds some of the countries very big stingers .

Catch Highlights of my trip
A 4 kg bonito caught near salinas using live bogue
5-6 kg dentex bream caught with cabalia

These examples show the variety and size of fish currently available, making Fuerteventura a rewarding destination for anglers of all skill levels.
Recommended Gear and Techniques
To maximize your chances, consider the following gear and techniques based on recent fishing trends:
Rods and reels: Medium to heavy spinning or conventional beach casting rods and reels paired with 20-50 lb test line work well for most species.
Baits: Live sardines and mackerel remain the top choices for most species , small bits of prawn or bread for smaller ones .Artificial lures such as poppers and trolling plugs are effective for pelagic species.
Techniques: pulley dongle rigs made up with 100lb mono. For shore fishing, casting near rocky points during early morning hours is recommended .small 2-3 hook flappers for mini species.
Tips for a Successful Fishing Trip
Check local weather and sea conditions before heading out to avoid rough waters.
Do some research before heading out and obtain a spanish fishing licence
Respect local fishing regulations, including size limits and protected species.
Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and safety gear, especially when fishing offshore.
Sustainable Fishing Practices
Fuerteventura’s marine ecosystem is delicate. Anglers should practice catch and release for undersized or non-target species and avoid overfishing popular spots. Using circle hooks and handling fish carefully helps reduce harm and supports long-term fish populations.
