Setting the Scene: Location and Conditions

The match took place on Swansea beach . Early afternoon rain gave way to foggy sky, and a moderate tide created ideal feeding conditions for dogs and whiting .

9 Anglers arrived well-prepared with a variety of tackle, bait, and techniques. The sandy beach provided a nice solid platform to set up my base camp , but the tide would flood in pretty fast adding an extra layer of challenge. The weather remained stable throughout the evening , with light winds and no rain, making it a comfortable environment for competitors.

Standout Catches and Techniques

Anglers landed some dogfish and whiting throughout the night , showcasing a mix of skill, patience, and knowledge of the beach. My casts were timed at 15 minute intervals and my main rig was a three hook clipped up with a mixture of sand eel mackerel and black lug for bait .

Equipment Insights

The match demonstrated how the right equipment can make a significant difference:

  • Rods and Reels: I choose my anyfish anywhere tournament match pro with akios shuttle ,with a back up fixed spool set up of yuki kenta with a shimano bullseye .

  • Line Choice: 20lb shimano exage

  • Terminal Tackle: Use of size 1 kamazan b940u and 20lb amnesia snoods

  • Bait Selection: black lug worm wraps ,sandeel and mackerel

Lessons for Future Matches and Trips

This match offered several lessons that can benefit sea anglers:

  • Preparation is Key: Knowing the local conditions, tides, and species behaviour improves chances of success.

  • Adaptability Matters: Being ready to switch baits, , or techniques based on what’s working can turn the tide in your favor.

  • samf chart: This match was scored using the samf weight to measure chart .I learned through the night that witing scored very little points where as dogfish scored much more. The bigger the fish the more points you get .

  • Community and Learning: Sharing tips and experiences with fellow anglers enhances skills and enjoyment.

Final Thoughts

I had an enjoyable night and could of placed much higher had my fish of been bigger in size . lessons learned again and i look forward to the next match .congratulations to those who placed and won a prize.
